Bylaws of the South Florida Model Sailing Club
(Amended
2013)
The South Florida Model Sailing Club SFMSC
will operate in such a manner as to qualify for sanction by the American Model
Yachting Association (AMYA). The minimum requirements are as
follows:

50% members of the
SFMSC must also be members of AMYA
·
Promote the health
and growth of model yachting
·
Provide for the conduct of local model sailing
events
·
Provide a focal point for fellowship in our
area
·
Make a sincere effort to conduct a minimum of one regatta each
year which is open to all AMYA members.
Article
1 – Name and Organization
1.1
Name-
The
name of the organization shall be South Florida Model Sailing Club.
Article
2 – Purposes and Objectives
2.1 Promote
Model Sailing- The
primary purpose of the organization is to foster R/C model sailboat sailing and
racing in the Broward County area.
2.2 Education-
The club will organize and
support continuing education of members so that all learn to sail and handle
their R/C equipment, and can enjoy competition in fleet
races.
2.3
Social-
The club shall support the
social interaction of members to produce a fun and enjoyable club
atmosphere.
Article 3-
Membership
Membership is by household and boats
sailed- If one household owns more than one boat, but only sails one at a time,
that is one membership. Multiple family members may take turns sailing one boat
as one membership. A second boat sailed by a family member requires a second
payment of dues. If two individuals are partners in the ownership of one boat
and take turns sailing it, this constitutes one
membership.
3.1
Voting
rights- One vote
per dues-paid-up boat.
3.2
Qualifications-The
club encourages CR914 and Soling 1M class boats since one-design racing is the intent of the organization.
Boats of other classes are welcome to sail with the SFMSC using a
handicapping system. And three or more boats of another class may race as a
separate one-design fleet. Non boat owning memberships are welcome.
3.3
Participation- All
members in good standing shall be authorized to participate in club/fleet
events; guests will be encouraged to participate as
well.
Article
4- Dues
4.1 Dues
amount- Dues shall be set by the fleet
membership. Dues shall be collected only for the purpose of funding the
activities of the club.
4.2. Dues
payment- Annual dues are due in January 1
of each year. Memberships applied for after May 31 shall be pro-rated for the
number of all full months of membership in a member’s first
year.
4.2-
Forfeiture-
If dues are not paid within
60 days of the due date, membership is
forfeited.
Article 5-Other
Fees
5.1- Special
Events-
Since the Club budget
cannot anticipate all the expenditures that club members there may be other fees
assessed from time to time to fund a specific event or
purchase.
Article 6 - Leadership and conduct of
Business
6.1 Executive Board-
The Leadership of
the SFMSC is the responsibility of an Executive board comprised of the SFMSC
Commodore, Vice-Commodore and
Secretary-Treasurer,
6.2
Officers-
SFMSC Commodore, Vice-Commodore and
Secretary-Treasurer, and additional officers as required, to conduct club and
fleet duties.
6.3-
Elections- Officers of SFMSC shall be elected
by vote of all SBMSC members, Majority elects, Quorum of 50% SFMSC
members.
6.4- Terms-
SFMSC officers
shall be elected each year
6.5-
Committees-
The SFMSC Commodore
shall appoint chairs of committees as necessary for the function of the
club.
6.6-
Meetings-
Meetings of the memberships of the SFMSC and the Executive Board shall be
scheduled as required. One months notice is required for each
meeting
Article 7-
Communications
7.1
Internet-
The primary vehicle for communication shall be the Internet. SFMSC will maintain
a website (www.soflamsc.com) which will post all information pertinent
to the activities of the Club, such as schedules, race results and notices of
meetings. Email will be used to call attention to notices posted on the website,
and members are encouraged to communicate by Email with the Executive Board, the
Webmaster and each other via Email.
Article
8 – Amendments
8.1
Mechanism-
The Executive Board shall submit proposed changes to the Bylaws to the
membership for approval. Majority approves, Quorum 50% of
membership.

9- Dissolution
9.1 In the
event of dissolution of the SFMSC any remaining material assets shall be sold
for cash and all cash assets distributed equally among the current
membership
